Magnetic Therapy Mattress | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When will I feel the benefits of the Magnetico Sleep Pad?

Because every person and their situation is different, it is impossible to predict when you will feel a difference. Some lucky people feel benefits the first night, for others it may take 6 months. The average is about 1-2 months. The important thing to remember is that some benefits, such as increased immunity, increased oxygen saturation, and lowered blood pressure, may be taking place, even though you can’t feel them. However, to ensure our customers are completely satisfied, the Magnetic Sleep Pad comes with the Six-Month Satisfaction Guarantee.

What’s the difference between the Classic, Core, Booster, and Super Sleep System?

The Classic was the original design, and it is not “up-gradable”.

The Core is the first stage of the Super Sleep System. It can be upgraded to a Super Sleep System by adding a Booster Pad.

The Booster is the second stage of the Super Sleep System. Although it can be used without a Core, we recommend starting with the Core as it will be easier to install a Booster afterwards.

The Super Sleep System is a Core with a Booster on top of it. They will arrive as separate pieces, and when installed provide the strongest magnetic field we offer.

Does the Magnetico Sleep Pad have to be the same size as my bed?

If two people use the bed – yes. If only one person has a pad under them, the person sleeping beside them will be exposed to the return possitive magnetic field that comes off the side of the pad. They could be adversely affected by this field if they sleep there over a long period of time.

Can I use single magnets or appliances during the day?

Yes, it is sometimes advisable to place magnets on injured areas of the body; however, do not use them while on the sleep pad as the magnet’s field will conflict with the field produced by the pad. Use of the Sleep Pad will actually enhance the body’s response to daytime use of an applied magnet.

Can a person who has surgically implanted screws, hip replacements or other metal implants, use the Sleep Pad?

Yes, it is a medical requirement that all metal implants are non-magnetic in nature.

Is it possible for me to get too much of a Negative(-) field?

In our research, we have experimented using pure Negative(-) fields a thousand times more powerful than the sleep pad for extended amounts of time. In all cases, we have found only an enhancement of benefits, with no negative side effects.

Does the field affect other electrical items in the room; e.g. clock radios, televisions, stereos etc.?

~ Clock radios, alarm clocks and stereos will not be affected.

~ Watches may lose time if worn to bed.

~ LCD or plasma televisions and monitors will not be affected.

~ Conventional (CRT) televisions and monitors – the screen colour may be altered depending on the model of Sleep Pad and distance away from your bed. Be advised that with the Super Sleep System, TVs located in a room directly below your bed area may be affected, especially if they are housed in a tall entertainment unit.

~ Computers – we recommend that you keep your computers two feet away from sides and ends of the Core Model, and three feet away from the Super System. Some customers have used their laptops in bed with no ill effects, but do so at your own risk.

**We are unable to guarantee the Sleep Pad won’t temporarily or permanently interact with electronic devices; use them near the Sleep Pad at your own risk.**

The above guidelines are based on our personal experience and the experiences of customers, but do not represent a promise or guarantee only what we expect. If you would have valuable or irreplaceable electronics you near the Sleep Pad that need to function, you should move these away or not use the Sleep Pad. See the question for “implanted devices” below as well.

Note: Our Sleep Pad’s steady state magnetic field is beneficial in that it buffers you from the effects of the pulsed electromagnetic fields in these and other electrical items, which can fatigue your body cells over time.

Can I use an electric blanket with the magnetic bed?

It is not recommended. The frequency produced by the electric blanket (or heating pad) may interfere with the restoring nightime process of resonance in the body. Many people find they no longer need their electric blanket because their metabolism has increased when sleeping on the Magnetico sleep pad.

Is it okay for my children to be on my bed?

It’s perfectly safe for children, in fact many have their own pads. The field is even gentle enough for premature babies. Many parents have found it greatly helps with children’s sleep patterns and can help calm hyperactivity. Growing pains are often relieved.

How about pets who like to sleep beside or on the bed?

Animals are more sensitive to magnetism than humans. They will probably not stay in the positive field beside your bed for long, since it is not their natural environmental polarity. However, cats in particular may take a liking to sleeping on your bed with a Negative(-) field mattress under them. Our customers report that the pets who sleep with them are benefitting as much as their owners!

Will I experience any side effects?

There are absolutely no harmful side effects. You may experience some temporary detoxification symptoms, however, which is good and indicates that your body is working at a more optimum level. Please read our Detoxification section for more information.

Can a person with an implanted electrical device, such as a pacemaker, pain pump, insulin pump or defibrillator use the Magnetico Sleep Pad?

NO. The strong magnetic field interferes with the function of these devices.

  1. Jane

Hello! Is this safe for pregnant women to use as well?

    1. magneticosleep

      Hello Jane,
This is an excellent question! Dr. Bonlie provided this helpful answer, and we will be adding this question to our regular FAQ soon.

The pad is safe to use for the majority of circumstances regarding pregnancy. We do have two recommendations based on the fact that our pads do have the normal benefit of assisting customers with detoxification, particularly when they start using it:
      1. Unless you have been using the pad for 3 months or more already, it isn’t suggested that you first start using the pad during the first trimester.
      2. Using the pad and completing the initial detox period (the above mentioned 3 months is sufficient) can provide a healthier environment for the pregnancy.

      Thanks again for asking!

  2. Maria

    Hi

I’ve had my magnetico pad for only 2 weeks.
I’m thinking of getting the chilipad as well as my partner would like to have the option to control the temperature on our bed. I understand that there is no wires (only tubes with water) on the bed, unlike an electric blanket.
However the motor part is stored under the bed and I wonder if that’s is ok with the magnetico . Can you please advise?
    Many thanks

    1. magneticosleep

      Hello Maria,

By the looks of the product I would say you don’t have much to worry about. We do tell customers that if they choose to use any electronic device near one of our pads, that they do so at their own risk. But unless the device uses magnetic memory (think VHS and floppy disks) most modern electronics are rather sturdy when it comes to tolerating a magnetic field. Digital devices that are intended to be very precise or are particularly sensitive could be more vulnerable to this type of interference, but a simple motor with basic controls likely doesn’t have a lot of components which are fragile or at risk.

Try asking the manufacturer for their thoughts as well, they could be an excellent resource!

  3. Bill

Will these products work with memory foam mattresses?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hi Bill,

Yes! Our Sleep Pads work with all types of mattresses including memory foam, latex, gel, traditional metal spring, and even air mattresses!

The only requirement is that the mattress you sleep on be a minimum of 4 inches thick, so as to avoid being in the positive (+) magnetic field spikes that occur on the surface of the Sleep Pad. Otherwise almost any material is fine, as magnetic fields aren’t easily affected by most materials.

      1. Dallas Griffin

Would a 4 inch thick mattress suffice for the Core Pad? Or is it just for the Classic Pad? I obviously want to ensure that I will be receiving the (-) negative charge and not the (+) positive. Thanks!

        1. Joan Yarema

A 4 inch thick mattress should be sufficient for all the Sleep Pad models to function normally.

  4. Tonia

If I understand correctly, the magnetico magnets are place between the mattress and the box spring. Will the metal rods in the mattress interfere with the magnetic field?

Also, my desk is beside my bed. I often sit at my desk and work on my computer. This sounds like I may be at jeopardy of being exposed to positive fields, correct?

Lastly, I have a small upstairs, downstairs condo. My living room is directly below my bedroom, and the corner that my bed is in is directly above my television in my living room. The television is not incased in a cabinet. It’s a plasma Sony Bravia that’s about 10 years old. Should I be concerned about this?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hello Tonia,

Our Sleep Pad is placed directly underneath the mattress, but above anything else (such as a box spring). The minimum distance from the pad you need is 4 inches of mattress, but a thickness of 16 or more inches will begin to reduce the strength of the pad quite a bit.

The return positive (+) field reaches out about 4 feet around all edges of the bed. Occasional exposure to this field is no cause for concern, but regular long-term exposure (for example working from home at the desk, or watching shows all evening) will constantly be draining your vitality.

Regrettably because it’s impossible to test all electronics I am unable to verify if your TV will be unaffected. We must warn that any electronic device you use within the magnetic field has the chance to be temporarily or permanently damaged. Many customers have reported to us that they use their phones, laptops, tablets, and TV’s on and near the bed with no issues whatsoever; modern electronics do tend to be designed to withstand outside interference. Older devices unfortunately (such as floppy discs or tapes, CRT monitors, and tube TV’s) are very vulnerable to magnetic fields though, and all precautions should be made avoid having them near the pads.

  5. Dave

Hello, what about using the Sleep Pad in conjunction with Earthing sheets/pads that are connected to a grounding rod?

    1. Joan Yarema

Using a earthing sheet/grounding pad may interfere with the proper function of the Sleep Pad, and we suggest you do not use them together.

  6. Richard

Is there an “orientation” for the sleep pad? Should one side face “up” and the other down. Or does it not make a difference?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hello Richard,

It is important to ensure that our Sleep Pads are facing the correct way when placed under the bed; for this reason we clearly label our Sleep Pads with stickers that inform you which way to place them. If placed incorrectly, the direction of the magnetic field would be going the opposite way that the Earth’s magnetic field flows, and this would make it difficult to sleep and generally provide a poor experience!

If you want a little more detail on why, check out our page on “The Science Behind Magnetico’s Success” and some of our other info pages.

  7. bonne

Will this magnetico pad work if it is not plugged into the grid? If I have the dirty electricity filters will this be ok and in will it keep me from receiving the grid in my bed if I have wires in my mattress as of today?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hello Bonne,

Our product only uses strong permanent magnets to create the magnetic field; this means it does need any electricity for the life of the product, and it does not need to be plugged in!

If you have any other products that you use on your bed that could potentially interfere with magnetic fields or EMF’s, we insist that you do not use them with our product. They could potentially damage each other, or interfere with their effectiveness and prevent you from recieving any of the benefits our pad offers.

Dr. Bonlie says you don’t need any other product to protect you from foreign frequencies created by electronic devices, as our Sleep Pad does so naturally using a strong magnetic field. It deflects them while you sleep, and will even help your body be protected from those frequencies even during the day the longer you use it.

  8. Rosa

Can I use my smart phone while in bed? How far from bed should the phone be during night?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hi Rosa,
If you choose to use electronics on or near your bed, you do so at your own risk. We cannot guarantee that the strong magnetic field won’t cause temporary or permanent damage to your devices.
We hear from many of our customers that they use their laptops and smartphones in bed with no issue. Most modern electronics are designed to mitigate this risk (many older electronics are easily damaged by magnets) but the best rule of thumb is this; if you aren’t comfortable with the idea of needing to replace your device (or if you wouldn’t be able to recover the information from that device) keep it away from the bed by at least 4 feet.
      Hope this helps!

  9. Matty

Is it necessary to use a kill switch with the magnetico sleep pad?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hi Matty,
Our Sleep Pad only uses ceramic magnets; there’s no electricity required and no plug. You would need to remove it from your bed if you no longer wanted to use it.

  10. Sean Carter

Is there a switch to power it off when not being used?

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hi Sean,
Our Sleep Pads only use ceramic magnets (imagine the kind that stick to your fridge). This means you do not plug it in and there is no electricity involved. Of course our magnets are much stronger than fridge magnets, and our product is designed to be used every night while you sleep; there’s no need to turn it off!

  11. peter b

after having adjusted well to sleeping with the Magnetico pad, what happens when you travel? will sleep be disrupted?

    1. Joan Yarema

Once you’ve used the Sleep Pad for a while, you will likely find that if you take a day or two trip that you don’t see much impact. But anything longer it’s expected you may notice the difference in your quality of sleep and will likely be looking forward to getting back home to your bed for some good rest!

  12. Christina

It says the classic sleep pad is not upgradeable. does that mean it will not work in conjunction with the core or booster should we be able to afford that later? Also, where can I find information specifically showing the affects that a 10 to 20 gauss and healing affects of only 5 gauss.
    Thanks
    Christina

    1. Joan Yarema

      Hi Christina,

The Classic model was Dr. Bonlie’s original design. While you could technically add it to a Core Pad or Booster Pad if you were so inclined, the magnets do not line up properly and this prevents it from being cost effective in terms of improving the strength. For example if you add a Classic to a Core, it’s expected to only reach about 12 gauss (on an 8 inch mattress).

This “Help Me Choose” page best covers what you would want to get any of the different models for. We created it with Dr. Bonlie as a guideline for individuals, as our customers regularly purchase our pads for different reasons. If you need some more information than what that provides, I’d highly recommend calling in to speak with Dr. Bonlie and he can help you decide as well.

  13. Micky

Can the pads be damaged, for instance by children jumping on them regularly? How do they cope with pressure and weight?

    1. Joan Yarema

Our Sleep Pads use mattress grade foams, so they would just as easily withstand such use as any other foam mattress. But, more importantly, they are placed underneath the mattress anyways (this typically means directly on some form of support) – so the mattress will take the majority of the wear and tear, and I don’t expect you’d ever see any issues on the Sleep Pad at all.

  14. Jill

If the sleep system is placed in an upstairs bedroom, can it have any negative effects to the people in the room below?

    1. Joan Yarema

While the magnetic field does extend over 6 feet from the top and bottom of the pad, even by that point it only measures 1.7g which isn’t much stronger than the earth’s magnetic field. While a low ceiling, a lack of a bed-frame/box-spring (meaning the Sleep Pad is on the floor), and standing directly underneath it for more than 1 hour may be taxing on the body, typically this trio of situations doesn’t happen very often.

  15. Emma Ruttyn

    Hello,
What do you suggest if our children are in bunk beds? Will it be detrimental to the child at the bottom if the mattress above their head has a sleep pad? (and vice versa I guess?)
    Thank you. 🙂

    1. Joan Yarema

We recommend getting a pad for each bed for the best distribution of the magnetic field between the two bunks. But if you are only going to get one than it should be placed on the top bunk. Make sure to check the maximum weight on the bunk, as our pads are quite heavy with all the magnets we put in them!

  16. Rick

Is it safe to use the electric blanket (warming pad) to warm the bed and then turn it off when you get in or will the blanket wiring interfere with the magnetic fields even though it is turned off?

    1. Joan Yarema

If you would like to leave it on the bed using it that way (great idea!) then as long as it is unplugged so that it also doesn’t act as an aerial for EMF’s it won’t have an impact on the magnetic field of the Sleep Pad.

  17. Kirt Borer

Is the super sleep system safe for individuals with dental fillings (old amalgam / silver fillings)? My wife is slowing having them taken out but still has a couple left to get removed.

    1. Joan Yarema

In your situation the Super Sleep System has the potential to provide significant benefits, yes.

  18. Cynthia

How long does the mattress pad last?

    1. Joan Yarema

The magnets in our pads will last many lifetimes (assuming the pads are handled correctly)!

  19. Cynthia

Does the mattress pad have a “life span” before needing to be changed out?

  20. Maryann

How long does magnetic mattress work.
Mine is about 20 years old

    1. Joan Yarema

Your pad still has decades of magnetic strength left! They only lose a small percentage even after 20 years.

  21. Mark

Are there any retreat centres you know of, in America or elsewhere that offer a chance to sleep on a Magnetico for the night? Thanks

  22. Caleb

    Hi,

I was curious with how you would compare the health benefits of something like this with a high quality PEMF device such as the IMRS? Also, sometimes I use a Biomat in my bed. From what I’ve read, you don’t recommend using other electric devices in your bed, but will simply having this plugged in, but not “on” be bad to do?

    1. Joan Yarema

The critical element to our product is you only receive a uni-polar field where you sleep. Any of these EMF and PEMF devices expose you to both positive (+) and negative (-) fields at the same time. Our page on the Bi-Polar theory covers this (link here), and if you would like some more information, Dr. Bonlie covers EMF’s in his lecture (which you can find here). Hope this helps!

  23. Emma Ruttyn

How much does your Classic Pad weigh for the Queen size?
    Thanks,
    Emma.

    1. Joan Yarema

As per the product page, it’s total weight is 90 lbs. But that is split over two pieces each weighing 45 lbs.

  24. Dewey

How easy is the magnetico to damage when moving. I mean I’m sure it’s pretty sturdy and I’m pretty strong like I can move each 90 pound pad with ease but the only awkward part is flipping the pad over and rolling it up when moving. Like does the pad need to be flat in the process of flipping? Or is it flexible enough to where it can fold for a second while I flip it over? I just don’t know how to check the pad for any damage as far as the magnetic field. I was moving it from my room to my walk in closet so that I could sleep in pitch dark. Lol. I just hope the struggle didn’t result in a broken pad.

  25. Dewey

Oh and I forgot to mention this too. Like how much can the pad support if somebody were to stand on it. Like if I 200 pound guy stepped on it carefully to move the pad around and adjust placement or whatever would that likely damage it? I mean I wasn’t doing jumping jacks on it or anything lol but I need to kind of put my foot on it and maybe stand on it for a second to move stuff around.

    1. Joan Yarema

In a strange way, the Sleep Pads are both somewhat fragile and very sturdy (but in different ways).

In terms of standing on it, this is basically a non-issue. If it’s resting on a flat surface, stepping on it simply compresses the foam which the magnets are embedded in. If you tried you could shatter one of the magnets, or dislodge one from the foam.

But, in terms of folding it, this is the fragile part. As we say on the instructions and on all the labels, do not fold the pads! If you need to fold it to move it, try your best to reduce the amount of time the pad spends folded. If you only had the pad folded for a brief moment, you can feel comfortable knowing it probably did nothing to the pad. But if you leave it folded for a period of time it will damage the magnets and make the pad useless.

If you want to test the magnets, simply use a piece of metal that is attracted to magnets (such as a butter knife) and move it along the pad. It should stick very noticeably to all of the magnets.

  26. Justin

Will your product interfere or damage a sleep tracking device such as an Oura ring or Fit bit type of device?

    1. Joan Yarema

Please see our FAQ question #6. Use of any electronic or digital devices within 4 feet of all sides of the bed is at your own risk – we can not guarantee that the Sleep Pad won’t damage them.

  27. NANDING DELA CRUZ

As we are constantly exposed to non-native EMF’s from mobile phones, wifi’s, etc, what is the effect of Magnetico Sleep Pads to the bad effects of those nnEMF to our health? Will the Magnetico Sleep Pads cancel out the effect of nnEMF in our body?

    1. Joan Yarema

The Sleep Pad was not originally designed to block or cancel EMF’s. However, it’s ability to help a person naturally deal with them has been reported by many of our customers. You can learn about them in Dr. Bonlie’s lecture here (https://magneticosleep.com/toronto-on-video/)closer to the end.

  28. Barbie

I have a metal bed frame. Will that counter the benefits of the magnetico classic sleep pad?

    1. Joan Yarema

A metal bed frame does not interfere with the function of the Sleep Pad.

  29. justin f

hi I have layed a piece of plywood on my carpeted floor the magnetico pads directly on top of the plywood and my mattress on top of the magnetico pads, with a leather bed frame around my mattress..is this ok as a setup?I wasn’t clear if these pads needed to be a couple feet off the floor are if a bedframe can surround them as far as the charges they release..thanks

    1. Joan Yarema

You just need to make sure you are separating yourself from the Sleep Pad by using a mattress that’s at least 4 inches thick.

  30. Sophie

Hi, I am curious about the draining effect being in the space around the mattress. I have a king bed and to walk around in my room would mean that I would be in the 4 foot space around it while getting ready in the morning/for bed. My bathroom is also attached to my room and is 4 feet away from the side of the bed, I know the 4 feet is recommended, but how much farther out does the positive frequency go? Will this be a problem spending time in my bathroom I.e. taking a bath which would mean my head would be exactly 4 feet from the side of my bed through a wall? The kitchen is also right below my bed and with my bedframe/box spring and floor depth (and not being particularly tall) it should be about 6 feet between the mattress and my head in the kitchen, but myself and my husband spend quite a lot of time in the kitchen so I am wondering about that distance. Additionally since the pad would be in two pieces would the center of the bed be draining to be in? If my foot crosses the midline during the night will that have adverse effects?

    1. Joan Yarema

Unless you work from home right beside you bed, or just sit beside your bed for hours reading or watching TV, you don’t need to worry too much about the normal day to day stuff you will do around the bed. Everything else you described is nothing to be concerned about.

  31. George Perry

Can one custom order a pad stronger than the super sleep?

    1. Joan Yarema

The Super Sleep System is the most efficient design. Attempting to make the Sleep Pad stronger is possible: you simply need to add another Super Sleep System on top. However due to the limitations of the design and how magnetism works, this does not double the strength as you get diminishing returns. For example, a Super underneath 8″ measures 20g, but two Supers would only measure about 30g.

  32. Deb

Can you use this with a water bed? The water bladder is about 10 inches thick. Will that be a problem?

    1. Joan Yarema

Our Sleep Pad works with any type of mattress, even up to 16 inches thick! Keep in mind, the farther away you get, the weaker the magnetic field becomes (although you must have something at least 4 inches thick).

  33. Jerry jackson

Can I use a grounding pad on top of the mattress with the magnetico sleep pad

  34. Trevon

What about a select comfort bed. They have a wireless electric air pump that sits underneath the bed and makes adjustments to the bed. Will this be an issue?

Also, boy have led colors lights under his bed frame. Will this be an issue?

  35. Sam

Can you tell me about the magnetic field UNDER the pad? Is the area from 0 – 4 feet under the pad harmful or best to be avoided? what type of magnetic field is present in this area? thank you

    1. Joan Yarema

Keeping the answer short – the field under the pad is fine to be in! For example pets can sleep under your bed. If you want more info please email [email protected]
